We did something crazy that REALLY started something crazy. We'd been watching this season of BYU basketball and loving it, especially Jimmer Fredette. Our friends, the Wilkins, called to see if we wanted to go to a game, so on February 23, we picked up Carson and Nate from school and headed to Provo to see the Jimmer in real life. The regular season was about over, so our tickets were a little high up, but it was so fun...we took all 4 boys...only Mormons...only at BYU. We took the boys to the BYU Bookstore and got them each a shirt. Then they each picked out a ball...that was where it all stared...I like to call it Jimmer-mania! After those boys sat through this game, it was all over. Everything was about BYU and Jimmer. They were talking Jimmer nonstop. Any team was BYU. Just about any white player was Jimmer. The boys were even yelling, "You got Jimmered."
Logan picked this ball out. Carson and Nate each chose a football. Now the ball that is fought over is the "YU Jimmer" ball. It is guarded with his life. NO ONE gets a turn with it...NO ONE. He sleeps with it. He plays with it. He even bathes with it. So funny and cute.Natey was in it for a trip to the pool...
So was Carson...
Lukey was just chillin in the car seat...
Not Logan...He was still all excited about Jimmer and his new ball.
Since we got home that night, that ball is rarely out of his sight. We watched the Cougs and their NCAA run. We watched Jimmer and his run for Player of the Year. Good thing he got it. We would have had some sad boys. They were heartbroken about their loss in the tournament. Logan is always playing ball...He is always Jimmer and he is always on YU. He can now recognize those letters. I guess that is a good way to teach abc's. It hasn't just been Logan either. Carson, Nate and Robbie caught the Jimmer fever too! They'd listen to a song called "Teach me how to Jimmer" on Youtube all the time. I can admit it caught a touch of the fever too! Then the other day something sad happened. I asked Carson if he knew that Jimmer was not going to play for BYU next year. He was shocked. I tried to explain that he was too old and had played there too long so he had to play on another team....like in the NBA. He doesn't even know what the NBA is. He was devastated. When Robbie came home for lunch, the first thing Carson asked was, "Dad, did you hear the news about Jimmer?" Robbie looked at me puzzled. "He's not playing for BYU next year." Oh...said his dad. And in a good kind way Robbie explained why he wouldn't be playing there (better than I did) and that it was ok cause we could still watch him. Carson was OK with that.
This Jimmer-mania that swept our family was so fun. It was something we all enjoyed and all watched a talked about together. So, even though Jimmer won't be at BYU next year, I am sure he will still get "YU...GO Jimmer." and "You got Jimmered" yelled at him through the TV at the Wayment house. SO, Jimmer, thanks for the fun and for the memories!!! We will never Fredette about you! ( I just had to...)
