Nate and the tonsilectomy...

We had our first surgery to deal with as parents. Poor little Nate was having such a hard time swallowing his food. After 4 bouts with strep throat, his Grandpa (and doctor) said that it was time for us to go the the ENT doctor. When the doctor came in, he asked about how sick he'd been. I told him. He then said that that was not too awfully sick. Then he said, "Open wide...WOW...now those are some tonsils. They are huge for a 3 year old. " So, we scheduled a tonsil and adnoidectomy on April 7. Here is the morning of...
This is more accurate how he was feeling...nervous. His back pack was full of dinosaurs. He took some to the doctors office too. The nurses and doctor couldn't believe how much he knew about dinosaurs. I am amazed by it too.
The hospital was so nice. The nurse anesthetist carried Nate down the hall to surgery. He went back a little nervous, but no tears. Here is Nate with his new teddy bear.

He came out of surgery crying and crying. He just wanted out of that place, so about half an hour later, we were on our way home. It pays to know the staff...and to have them know that Dr. Grandpa is next door.
Poor little Nate just layed on the couch. Then it was like a switch flipped. He was eating potatoes and popsicles like crazy. He recovered really well. We only had one throw up to clean up and he came through this like a champ.
The nurse in the OR said that those were some of the biggest tonsils he'd ever seen, especially on a 3 year old. They were a little bigger than a bouncy ball. Before surgery, Nate only had about 1/4 of an inch between his tonsils. He had a hard time eating, breathing and talking. Now his voice is higher. He eats a ton. And, he never shuts up. Robbie teases him and says that he is going to take him back to the hospital and have the tonsils put back in. His favorite song to sing is, "Everybody dance now...Everybody dance now...Everybody dance now..."
Even though it was a very minor surgery, I kept telling Robbie that I wished that I was stupid. It is scary to put your baby under anesthesia knowing the risks.
Once we were home, Nate ripped the hospital stuff off the teddy bear. He won't talk about his surgery. He is so funny when people ask him about it. He just bows his head and hides. It is like he wants no evidence of what he went through. We are glad it is over.

Happy Easter...a month late

Let's just say that I have a lot of blogging to catch up with. So, happy belated Easter. I love Easter. I love the candy...I think I went through 10 bags each of Cadbury Mini Eggs and Sweet-Tart Jelly Beans. I love the traditions...Grandpa Bob's Easter Egg Hunt...pics will come. But, most of all, I love the message. I am so thankful for the Resurrection. I loved that we had General Conference. It was so neat to hear from our prophet.

Like with every holiday, I love spending time with family. We had a lot of Robbie's family here. We ate sooooo good...fish tacos, chile verde (thanks to Andy and Kristin), and a yummy Easter feast.

Of course, it was our turn to clean the church, so we colored eggs about 9:30 the night before Easter. We had our cousins here to do it. It was so much fun. Logan was in bed about 3 hours by the time we got eggs colored. Good thing too...he is so busy and likes to make lots of messes!

I LOVE Nate's green fingers. He loved the green dye. I guess that was lucky since he had on green jammies.
Easter morning was fun. The Easter Bunny came and hid the Easter baskets and candy filled eggs. The baskets were hidden in our favorite hiding places for Hide and Go Seek. The boys found them in about 2 minutes. They had some dinosaur presents...an encyclopedia about dinosaurs, a couple of books and a movie. That Easter bunny must really know Carson. He went crazy with the encyclopedia. Now it is me...the mother going crazy reading about all these dinosaurs. I don't even know how to say the names. Don't worry, my 4 year old corrects me all the time. The biggest hit with Logan was, of course, the CANDY! Jelly beans, Peeps, chocolate suckers...you name it, he loves it.
We got all ready and watched Conference. I love this picture of all my boys. Once again, I had to bribe a silly picture for a nice one. I almost like the silly ones best.
We had all the Wayments over after Conference for an Easter feast. Then it was time for our Easter Egg Hunt. In true Idaho fashion, it snowed all week end, so we had the hunt in our messy, dirty, unfinished basement.
The prizes...YUM!I think a dirty face is the sign of a good fun day! These are Robbie's 3 brothers that live around here. We sure missed everyone that couldn't come. After all the festivities were over, I was a little sad. I hate the let down when everyone goes home. It is so nice to have family close by and to get to spend so much time together. We'll do it again next year!

A Compromise.

Some days before preschool, Carson's cousin Grace comes for about a hour. Then they have preschool together. Grace loves to play "honeys". Until today, Carson has been fine with just honeys. He's the dad. Grace is the mom. Nate is the kid. It works.

Today, Carson decided that they needed to play dinosaur honeys. Here was my cute little boy pretending to be a daddy T-rex and cuddling a little ugly plastic T-rex saying, "Honey, isn't our baby cute? He is getting so big." Then a little later I hear him say, "Honey, you go get us some food. Go hunting." Grace said, "But I am a mom and moms don't hunt." Carson then replied, "You are the girl. The girl gets the food. GO!" Nice. At age 4 he already thinks that the woman is responisble for the food...we are going to have to work on that one.

It was time.

Nothing says "it is time for your baby's first hair cut" more than this:

Thanks Robbie. He bathed the kids and this is how Logan came out. SO, we did hair cuts on Friday morning. It is quite comical. Carson HATES hair in his face. If one little piece falls in his face he freaks. So, he has a towel over his face during haircuts. Then Nate is crying, "Please don't cut my ear off....PLEASE!" and "I'm being brave. I'm being brave." It is so funny. And Logan just sucked his sucker and stayed perfectly still.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

How Robbie and I got a blonde haired child, I will never know.

I had to bribe the boys with a silly picture if they took a nice one. I think they are pretty cute!

UPDATE: My newest battle with Logan is that he REALLY likes outside, especially the dirt. So, when I bring him in, he throws himself down on the ground and tips back, banging his head on the floor, or he bends forward, banging his head on floor between his legs. And then he stays like that for a minute or so crying. He has a little temper.

Give them and inch...

I've been fighting this battle since the beginning of Carson's time.
Carson: Mom, we need more drums!!! Can we have ONE pan? Just one??? PLLLEEAAASSSEE?

Me: OK...JUST ONE.

I turn my back and this is what I see:
I think that they were missing one pan. My sister let them borrow some old VHS tapes. They've been LOVING Tarzan. They especially love that "rock song" I want to know. We like the hard stuff...Phil Collins. They are funny. I have to rewind the song about a hundred times! They are also really into The Land Before Time. Right now they are running around chasing dad playing dinosaurs. AND yes, they are in their underware today at 5 pm and they were on this day at 1 pm. Hopefully, someday, they will keep their clothes on all day.

Doop

It is so funny to hear my baby talk. Logan's latest thing he says is "doop." That's poop... for when I am wiping his bum and for when his brothers want to laugh. Funny.

Also, Thing 3 has struck again. This time it was with the Gospel Art Kit. This has about 200 pictures in numerical order. Lets just say that our scriptures are now a little mixed up. Someday I just might get them back in order...someday (sigh).

These posts about Logan are just the new things he is doing. This is added to getting in the flour bucket on a biweekly basis and getting in the toilet on a bidaily basis...this kid!!! As Carson says, "Dang baby." We don't think it is very nice, but it is kinda true...dang baby!

Chocolate Milk and Sausage

What does a little boy turning 3 want for his birthday dinner besides a dinosaur birthday cake? Chocolate milk and sausage. Later he thought that scrambled eggs and waffles would be good too. This is so cute because every time we go to Grandpa Bob's and Grandma Marsha's, we have this for breakfast.

Nate celebrated his birthday on March 4. We had a fun day. He started the day in a new dinosaur shirt...which he loves! And also started saying, "I am 3. 3 year olds don't suck their thumbs." If only it were that easy.

Robbie took a long lunch and we all went to lunch together. He chose going to Wendy's. On the way over, he was hot. He kept saying, "I'm sveaty." I guess that he felt hot. It was funny.

The cousins that are close by couldn't make it to the party, so one aunt, Heather, brought up Nate's little cousin and met us at Wendy's. Robbie went back to work, so Heather and I had 5 BOYS to control there and the oldest was 4. YIKES! She then took Nate to Wal-Mart to choose a toy. Her little boy Easton ended up staying the night at our house. It was so fun and a tiny bit rowdy.

After late naps, we had our dinner. Robbie's parents came and my dad and Marsha made the trip over. Nate was so glad to see them. None of the other cousins could come that night, so I asked Nate if he had a friend that he wanted to come over. He said yes...Kerrie...my good friend who has 2 darling boys. They are older than mine, but my kids love them. It was funny that he chose her and not the boys. We had a fun party.

Now that Nate is 3, he has a new found sense of being big. He keeps telling Carson, "When I turn 4, I am going to be bigger than you." Carson's response is always, "No sir." When you are 4, I am going to be 5." It is a frustrating and never ending argument. He is still a sensitive boy. He does NOT like to be in trouble. 30 seconds in time out is like 30 spanks to him. And if he did something really bad and does get a spank...I better plan for 20 minutes of consoling afterward. He is so loving. At lunch I asked him who his best friend was. He quickly said, "Carson and Logan." It is true. They all love each other so much. He is getting so curious and asking all kinds of questions about what animals eat. He knows all the names and facts about dinosaurs. He at age 3 knows WAY more than his mother about this. He is learning his letters and sounds.

His most exciting thing that has happened since Nathan turned 3 is that he is now big enough for a booster seat. He has wanted out of that baby car seat for a very long time. Yesterday we told him that we were going to get him one. He was so excited that he couldn't eat his dinner. We headed to the store and got it. Of course we took out his old car seat and installed his booster. He wanted to sit in the very back seat next to Carson. On the way home he said, "Mom, Carson isn't talking to me." So then I told Carson to talk to his brother. Nate then said, "I love sitting in the back and talking to you." Carson said, "I love that too." Melted me.

I hope that he always stays so sweet. This number 2 son of mine is exactly what Heavenly Father knew I needed...especially after my determined number 1. Nate is my constant even tempered one. I love him for that. He has more of a disposition like his dad. If he keeps like this, he is going to have a very happy life.
